WORKING TOWARDS A BIG GOAL? HERE ARE 3 WAYS TO STAY FOCUSED

We’ve all been there before. We remember the excitement we felt when we decided to go for it. We planned as much as we could, the paths we would take. Though we did not have all the answers, we continued forward. We prioritized, practiced discipline, and committed to do whatever it took to accomplish our goal.

But what do we do when distractions become louder than our paths forward and accomplishing our goal seems an impossible feat?  Do we stay in the race or does the noise become so loud it’s easier to just walk away? If you’re working towards a big goal and are having a hard time deciding what to do next, here are 3 ways to “starve your distractions and feed your focus.”

RESTATE YOUR GOAL

What’s true about distractions is that they never go away. So, how do we stay focused if  distractions are simply par for the course?

One way I’ve managed to “starve” my “distractions and feed” my “focus” is to confidently restate my goal. That means, instead of questioning my path forward; I restate what I’m working towards. Perhaps my goal has evolved into something new because of what I’ve discovered along the way or maybe it has remained the same. Either way, restating what I’m working towards reminds me of what is important. Knowing what’s important brings a certain level of mental clarity. As I work through making the decision that I believe will move me closer to my goal, I find myself feeling more confident about my path forward because I have the end goal in mind.

FOCUS YOUR NETWORK

Having a strong network matters at any point in your journey, but having a focused network can be much more impactful when working towards a specific goal, especially when there are distractions. So, what is a focused network? A focused network consists specifically of people who have demonstrated success in what you are looking to achieve. If the goal is to earn a PhD in Business Administration, it would be important to network with others who have earned their PhD in the same field and are successfully leveraging their credentials professionally. This focused network can bring clarity when distraction is at its loudest.

FEED YOUR GOAL

You’ve restated your goal, focused your network but is there anything you can do to ensure that you actually stay focused and achieve your goal? The answer is, yes! You must feed your goal. In other words, you have to put in the work. Irrespective of the distractions, you must work towards your goal even when the odds are against you. You must work towards your goal even when others doubt you. You must work towards your goal even when you doubt yourself. You must work towards your goal and never give up#stayfocusedmyfriends
